Did you know that Jiří Grygar, a speaker at the 17th European Skeptics Congress, is not only the laureate of the prestigious UNESCO Kalinga Prize but also has a minor planet named after him?

The Kalinga Prize is awarded to persons for exceptional skill in presenting scientific ideas to lay people. Jiří Grygar, an astronomer and astrophysicist, has been such a person since 1966, when he started creating an annual list of the most significant astronomical discoveries of the previous year, which he would first present in talks for the public and later publish.

He made his mark for enthusing the lay public for the sky so much so that the minor planet 3336 was named after him.
